Music is a gift from God and an important part of a believer's life and worship.
.. be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord" (Ephesians 5:18-19).
It is a means to build believers up in their faith and encourage them in their walk with God.
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God." (Colossians 3:16)
It is a vital part of the church's corporate praise of God.
"O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD, Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God And a great King above all gods" (Psalm 95:1-3)
Godly Music must be consistent with the character of a holy, awesome and glorious God.
"By those who come near Me I will be regarded as holy, And before all the people I must be glorified" (Leviticus 10:3)
It's purpose in the church is not to entertain. It should be distinct from secular music which is so frequently characterized by sensuality, godlessness and dissipation.
